Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds to YTV

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds to YTV

is making some bold moves to ramp up its 2009-2010 cartoon season! Amongst the biggest moves is the company signing a deal with Entertainment to bring the latest show in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds, to its lineup. will air all episodes from the first season of the series, which, if you count all Yu-Gi-Oh! shows as one long show, would be it’s ninth season. If you haven’t caught up with the show yet, Yusei Fudo, along with his main card Stardust Dragon, leads the charge in the Turbo Duels, using his Duel Runner motorcycle as the Duel Disk.

Has the show aired on YTV yet?  Is it as butchered as the other series were?

heya zentron!

hah, yeah the dubbed versions of 5Ds never really got a good reputation.  they seem to be disliked by most of the older fans, or at least those who have seen the original anime.

are you a yu-gi-oh fan in general?

I think I’ve seen 5D’s on YTV before… It used to air at like, four thirty am or something. I’m sure I’ve seen it. <.<

Anyway, most of the dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh! shows/seasons weren’t that great… Scenes were cut, important dialog was removed… There were a LOT of really deep scenes that just ended up being about the power of friendship in the dub. xD

Poor dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh! frown

I’ve actually witnessed the 4Kids dubbing process before, indepth.  From the voice actors to the editing to “scrubbing” out knives and other objects from the scenes.  It gets pretty intense!

Not… particularly.., but I do like the Anime’s enough to get the DVDs from Japan, even have the original Yuugi-Ou series… y’know, the one before the tournament saga, when Yuugi has just been possesed after solving the puzzle in the box!

I just despise the 4Kids dub version.. heck, I despise all 4Kids dubbing of series that they’ve bought!!

hah, yeah, i tend to hear that a lot.

on the one hand, though, you do have to give 4kids SOME credit for bringing a lot of great anime projects and formally Japanese-only cartoons to the US, Canada, and elsewhere.  Sure, OK, maybe they got destroyed a bit (or a lot!) in the process, but… there’s a lot of fans now that wouldn’t have known about them before, if 4Kids didn’t do what they did.

It’s like a love-hate balance!

Yes, some credit there, but if they had only done a proper job at releasing them, I might not hate them soooooooooooooooo much.

Saying that, I can get the Japanese domestic and Malaysian DVDs of the Anime series that 4Kids releases, plus of course, WInx Club is available on DVD in Italy with the English dub on the disc…. well, apart from the 4th series, which is unfortunately being released by ’01 Distribution’, so no English dub on that release, which is rather annoying.

hahahah ok, maybe it wasn’t the best way to get it, but at least it reached our shores!

it’s also not entirely 4kids’ fault — there are so many censors and protective agreements that all of the TV networks make with the government (sounds like a conspiracy!) that have to make sure there’s not too much violence, no mentions of religion, obviously no nudity or anything close, no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking, etc, etc.  Some rules even go so far as stating “no breaking glass” !!

but, you’re definitely right – watching the imports with english subtitles is definitely the way to go for the true experience!

That’s sort of true, here with Yu-Gi-Oh, which is not a show for young kids, but one for mid-teens.  4Kids should never have bought the series, as in order to make it into a young kids, they would have to dumb it down to pointless drivel.
