It's been 16 years in the making, but the long awaited sequel is finally coming to our favorite home video game system; Sonic the Hedgehog 4, a direct sequel to 1994's Sonic & Knuckles on Sega Genesis, is headed to Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. Originally codenamed "Project Needlemouse," Sega officially announced that the title will also be episodic, with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 looking like the Sonic game we want it to be! The event takes place this summer, ready to be downloaded to WiiWare, PSN, and/or XBLA. Check out the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 after the break, and let us know what you think!

im so glad to see a return to 2D sonic.  the genesis game in 94 is probably the last sonic game i've really loved.  i dunno, i just can't get used to the guy in 3d (or with karts, or with swords, or as a werehog…)

My all time favourite game was Sonic 2, for Genesis. I didn't really like the slowness of Sonic 3… Sonic Advance was also sorta good, because it was portable and less glitchy than Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble for the Sega handheld…

The only 3D Sonic games I felt were actually done right were Sonic Adventure I & II. They actually had fun, easy game play, and okay story lines.

i think i actually had the most fun with the sonic games on game gear, now that i think of it!  they were ports, but seemed to run a lot smoother than the genesis counterparts.

I felt Sonic 2 ran faster than Sonic 1 & 3, which is why I like it more, but the screen pixels lagged slightly, on my device anyway.

For me the Game Gear games were just a tad too slow…

Knowing you, probably not. It just seems that we disagree on a number of different things. xD

I've been playing my Sonic 2 on the console a lot, and I've also been playing a lot of other eight and sixteen bit Sonic games on emulators.
