The Green Lantern goes 3D
The world of 3D has had a lot of success lately, what with Avatar and Alice and Wonderland raking in the big bucks. The world of super hero films has also done nicely, what with Iron Man and Dark Knight raking in the big bucks. Using that logic, Warner Bros. has a great idea on their mind: combine the two! The upcoming Green Lantern film, will do just that. The Green Lantern, due to hit screens on June 17th, 2011, will bring the DC Comics hero into living 3D. Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, DC Entertainment plans to take this imagination-based hero into the stars, but also into your eyes, through stereoscopic 3D use. Leaves us wondering; will the glasses be red, blue, and green…? (more… )
The Last Airbender’s new trailer
Last week, theaters welcomed Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief to the box office; and warmly, we might add. More importantly to us, however, was that the film included the newtrailer to M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film The Last Airbender – longer than the trailer shown during the Super Bowl. The story, based on Nickelodeon’s Avatar The Last Airbender, tells the tale of Aang, a 12-year-old boy (played by Noah Ringer) who provides the last hope for restoring harmony to a land consumed by chaos. Take a look at the trailer right here and see for yourself! (more… )
The Last Airbender reveals a new trailer during the Super Bowl
The Super Bowl was awesome! Saints made the miracle climb to Super Bowl champs, besting the Colts in a fantastic game, giving the city of New Orleans a great reason to celebrate. And, hey, along the way, we pick up a sneak peek at the upcoming Avatar film, The Last Airbender! Bonus! M. Night Shyamalan’s epic about the anime-styled, Nickelodeon super star is ready for the big screen and looks amazing. Aang shines it what truly looks to be an amazing battle by the four elemental nations; Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. The flick hits theaters July 2nd, beginning the story on a grand scale. But don’t let these words steal the show; check out the trailer here for yourself, and let us know what you think (more… )
Mirror mirror, on the wall. Whose the highest grossing of them all?
With all of Avatar’s monster success, there has been a lot of talk lately about the biggest box office draw of all time. Sure, Avatar’s numbers are great, but when compared to the 1939 classic Gone with the Wind, adjusting for the times and inflation, Avatar is way behind. That got us to thinking; with all of the recent animated blockbusters, what actually are the biggest, most successful toon films of all time? The answer may shock you – it’s not Shrek, UP, or even the Lion King. It’s Disney’s 1937 debut into cinematic animation; Snow White, at over $800 million. The film, Disney’s first, is 1st on the all-time list for animated films, and 10th on the all-time list of any movie (Avatar is 26th). Check out the rest of the list (more… )
Guardians of the Power Masks
Hawaii Film Partners and Toonzone Studios have teamed up to produce a number of animated projects, and the pair was nice enough to give us a sneak peek at a few of them. One of the most anticipated is a new animated series called Guardians of the Power Masks. Taking a “Powerpuff Girls” meets “Avatar” look, the toon follows Annie, a pop star wannabe, that is sent to spend the summer with her grandmother and cousin in a small Chinese town. It’s there that she learns of something mysterious threatening the planet. To fight off the forces of evil, Annie and her cousin train as warriors, using sacred Power Masks to keep their identities a secret. No official launch date or network has yet been provided, but stay TOONed for more info. Sound like something you’d watch? (more… )
Avatar takes filming to a new level
We already know that Avatar is setting records. But some people are trying to figure out “how” it’s doing so well — I mean, other than the fact that it graces us with some gorgeous CG animation effects. One of the best aspects of the movie, visually speaking, is the motion capture technology that allowed some of the ultra-life-like animation to take place; very similar to the idea of “Avatar”, in an of itself. You’re a very smart man, Mr. James Cameron. Check out the behind the scenes look at how some of this magic was captured (more… )
Avatar: The Legend of Aang magazines
Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products, a segment of Nickelodeon which is a segment of MTV (these companies are monsters!) have recently announced a plan to distribute Avatar: The Legend of Aang branded magazines throughout Germany. Each special magazine comes with add-ons and tie-ins, including a DVD with episodes of the popular anime-like animated series. So, how can you get them? …aside from living in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, or elsewhere with access to eBay? Local kiosks, newsstands, and supermarkets will be stocking the books, ready for eager fans to get their hands on the books. (more… )
James Cameron’s Avatar still setting records
With every passing day, Avatar continues to set box office records (no, not Nickelodeon’s Avatar). James Cameron’s latest epic adventure turns the art of CG animation into a masterpiece unlike any have before. All four weeks in theaters, the film has hit the top spot, only losing marginal ground week-to-week, which is incredibly rare for a film. Showing in nearly 200 Imax screens, with nearly 100 more Imax 3D theaters, it has become the largest production to date. As of this posting, it’s just shy of $500million domestically, a line it will likely cross this weekend. It’s huge!! Have you seen it yet? Would this trailer help? (more… )
