1939 Batman comic sells for more than $1M
Who would have thought that a single comic book could be worth a million dollars. Who would two comic books could be worth a million dollars? Well, that’s exactly what took place recently, as two books featuring DC Comics superheros sold for insanely large piles of cash. A 1939 copy of Detective Comics #27 starring Batman sold for almost $1.1 million dollars, just days after a 1938 copy of Action Comics #1 starring Superman sold for $1million. The 70 year old books are incredibly rare, particularly those in good condition, as it is thought there are less than 5 of each. We’ve seen Superman and Batman face off before, but there’s not that many people rich enough to have pulled this off. We’re starting to think Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, and his vast fortune, may have kicked in a few extra thousand bucks. Pretty sneaky having Batman beat Superman, Mr. Wayne. (more… )
The Green Lantern goes 3D
The world of 3D has had a lot of success lately, what with Avatar and Alice and Wonderland raking in the big bucks. The world of super hero films has also done nicely, what with Iron Man and Dark Knight raking in the big bucks. Using that logic, Warner Bros. has a great idea on their mind: combine the two! The upcoming Green Lantern film, will do just that. The Green Lantern, due to hit screens on June 17th, 2011, will bring the DC Comics hero into living 3D. Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, DC Entertainment plans to take this imagination-based hero into the stars, but also into your eyes, through stereoscopic 3D use. Leaves us wondering; will the glasses be red, blue, and green…? (more… )

Who will star as Captain America
Having Christian Bale as Batman and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine now seem like such wonderful, obvious choices. However, for a time, no one knew who would be the right fit for either of those two characters. Right now, Marvel is having a similar issue with their American Patriot Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. The upcoming superhero film, to be directed by Joe Johnston, will tell the story of a young man who becomes the symbol of Liberty during World War II, and eventually a leader of the Avengers. Right now, that could be John Krasinski (Jim from the Office), Michael Cassidy (from Smallville), Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Bethel, Mike Vogel, and several others. With Thor and Spider-Man going through their own growing pains with casting, Marvel has it’s work cut out. Who would be your choice? (more… )

Waking Sleeping Beauty
The history of beautiful animated films is no perfect fairytale. Sure, now we have Finding Nemo, Coraline, Kung Fu Panda, and The Princess and the Frog. And yeah, it all stems from the rich heritage of golden age classics, like early Mickey Mouse reels, Snow White, Looney Tunes, and Sleeping Beauty. But the late 1970s brought a “dark age,” when animation studios were shut down, artists fired, projects canceled, and the medium itself was thought to be dead. That’s where the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty steps in, telling the true story of how animation, and the love for the art, was brought back to life by a group including Roy Disney (of Disney family fame), John Lasseter (Pixar, Toy Story, The Incredibles, Up, Wall-E, etc.) Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman, Alice in Wonderland, etc.), and Don Bluth (An American Tail, The Land Before Time, The Secret of NIMH, etc.) and dozens of others. Together, they brought us the Disney Renaissance, revived the entire industry with new classics like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. On March 26th, in select theaters, you’ll get to see the story for yourself. But for now, check out the trailer! (more… )

Not many other details are known yet about the series, still early in development, but stay TOONed right here for updates, and we’ll post them ASAP! (more… )
Justice League Crisis on Two Earths out today
DC Comics and Warner Premiere; two similar-yet-different companies within the same realm. If only the two of them were filled with capes, masks, and super powers, it’d be very similar to their collaborative project, Justice League Crisis on Two Earths. This original, animated DVD and Blu-ray film is out today, February 23rd. It features the Justice League, similar to the incarnation from the Cartoon Network series, battling an evil Justice League from an alternative universe. True to the “opposite” stance, this evil League regularly does battle with a good Lex Luthor. How’s that for crazy! This is the seventh animated special in the line of the DC Universe Original Animated Movies line released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation. Check out the trailer, then go buy the DVD or Blu-ray! (more… )
