Cartoon Network gets hyped for the Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction video game
Ben has a pretty cool gig. I mean, he’s had, what, three shows so far? Ben 10, Ben 10: Alien Force, and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. He’s had specials, movies, live-action segments, great LEGO toys, and all kinds of products. But one of the only ways to truly get a sense of just how cool it is to live Ben Tennyson’s life is to get your hands on a Ben 10 video game. Papaya Studio, Cartoon Network, D3 Publisher, and the rest of the folks behind the latest gaming adventure, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction, had that specific goal in mind – and it appears the goal was achieved! The game, due out in just a month, on October 5th, features 17 playable characters, including normal aliens, ultimate aliens, and Ben, himself — Fourarms and Rath will appear in special editions. Be sure to check out the trailer right here in this post, then pick the game up for whatever platform you have: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, or Nintendo Wii. (more… )

The Smurfs get Papercutz to debut The Purple Smurf
The Smurfs; lovable, joyful little critters who gleefully sing the day away. Seems like the perfect little symbol of happiness, right? Well, now imagine that one of them is all twisted and evil and bitter – and most alarmingly, a blue-less purple. Then he bites another Smurf, turning him the same kind of evil and purple. Then another. And another. Soon, it’s a whole horde of zombie-like evil Smurfs, aiming to take over all of Smurfkind. Horrifying, right?? Well, such is the tale of The Purple Smurf, or as it was originally known in France, Les Schtroumpfs Noirs. It’s an epidemic even Gargamel couldn’t have dreamed up, and one only Papa Smurf could figure a way out of. The original story was released by Peyo, nearly 50 years ago, then animated in the Saturday morning toon some 20 years ago, and replayed on Cartoon Network’s Boomerang about 5 years ago. Now, Papercutz is re-releasing the original graphic novel in English for the first time, along with other Smurf adventures, like The Smurfs and the Magic Flute. With Sony and Columbia’s hybrid CG Smurfs movie due out next August, it looks like Smurf fever is spreading everywhere! Let’s just hope its not the purple kind. (more… )

The Dating Guy is set to splash on Teletoon at Night
There are not that many cartoons on TV that we would categorize as strictly “adult” cartoons. Outside of the world of movies or anime, I mean toons with a regular schedule. Family Guy, the Simpsons, and South Park certainly have their moments. Comedy Central’s Drawn Together is likely the the best candidate for the role of “kids shouldn’t be watching this” type of cartoon. Well, Marblemedia’s Dating Guy kicks things up a notch, bringing Teletoon’s late night segment, Teletoon at Night (think Adult Swim on Cartoon Network) to a whole new level. The toon follows four 20 year olds; Mark, Woody, Sam, and VJ, as they explore the challenging world of dating and romance as it mixes into jobs, rent, and other daily struggles. Oh, and maybe there’s a jewel thief. And a werewolf. It happens! (more… )

Teletoon at Night adds The Dating Guy, Archer, and Robot Chicken
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has, for years now, brought adults (and either older, or lucky, kids) some of the better evening-time animation. Similarly, Teletoon has it’s own after dark programing they call Teletoon at Night, running from 9pm through the morning. This year, that lineup is getting a nice boost of new toon love. A number of new series will make their debut on the block, siding with some of the genres legends. Three of the recently slotted titles include; The Dating Guy, Archer, and Robot Chicken. The Dating Guy features just that, a guy struggling in the dating world, while Archer is a James Bond-like adventure series of a suave master spy. Robot Chicken is it’s own world, using a mixture of animation styles (from stop motion claymation to CG) to tell wacky stories and adventures. And all to the delight of Teletoon at Night fans, everywhere. (more… )

Bleach The Movie: Memories of Nobody and Bleach The Movie 2: The Diamond Dust Rebellion rock Adult Swim
Adult Swim gets a lot of special features that simply can’t be found anywhere else. Recently, the late-night segment of Cartoon Network had one of its most impressive showings ever, airing two Bleach anime films back-to-back. First up was Bleach: Memories of Nobody, a 2006 film of the anime and manga Bleach series, which has only aired once before on Adult Swim, back on September 5th, 2009. The second film was the Bleach sequel, The Diamond Dust Rebellion, aired immediately afterward – nearly a full month before it will be available in Europe on DVD. Truly a great day for TOON fans, and an equally great day for Cartoon Network, which reaped the reward of big ratings for the double feature. Hopefully, that will make them anxious to repeat it!
