4Kids teases Toonzai debut on The CW4Kids
With the summer heating up through August, cartoon blocks have begun ramping up their fall premieres; new toons, new fun, and (for some) a whole new look. From FoxBox to 4Kids.tv to The CW4Kids, there have been a number of variants in the 4Kids lineup, and this year will be no different. The new block, dubbed “Toonzai”, will debut in just a few weeks, but the promos have already started to spill out! We got word of the name-swap a few months back, and are just now getting official looks at both the logo and the rumored lineup, set to include Cubix, Sonic X, TMNT Back to the Sewer, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, and Dinosaur King, for starters. Take a look at the network promo teaser and full lineup below and let us know what you think of 4Kids’ new look! (more… )

The NYSE begins delisting process for 4Kids
Much is afoot at 4Kids Entertainment lately. There have been rumors of a buyout. There have been struggles with Chaotic. There have been proposals to rebrand for Toonzai Saturday mornings. There is work on strong toons like Dinosaur King and Dragon Ball Z Kai. Some news sounds like forward momentum, some sounds scary. It’s not entirely clear what the future holds for the company whose legacy includes Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, Cabbage Patch Kids, Fox partnerships, CW partnerships, dubbing concerns, soft drink scandals, and more. The latest tidbit is the stock listing for 4Kids being removed from the New York Stock Exchange. Due to the company not meeting the minimum trade rate, NYSE is forced to make the move, giving 4Kids 10 days to review or appeal the decision. This doesn’t mean the company is closing, just that it will trade stocks in a traditional private fashion. Maybe there’s hidden good news in there, maybe not. What do you think? (more… )

Nicktoons goes Dragon Ball Z Kai crazy May 24th
Monday May 24th is D-Day for Nickelodeon watchers. Well, DBZ-day. Or, maybe DBZK-day? Whatever you want to call it, at 8pm, Nicktoons will be airing back to back episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai, repeating the back-to-back mini-marathon again on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of that week. The Funimation Entertainment and Toei Animation series has 99 episodes in all for its American deal, which will also be running (separately) on TheCW4Kids’ Saturday morning block starting in September of this year. Creator Akira Toriyama and Shueisha worked on the series as part of the 20th anniversary for the anime and manga franchise. Fans lucky enough to have already seen some episodes call it “the definitive Dragon Ball experience.” What say you? (more… )

TheCW4Kids to become Toonzai, says 4Kids Entertainment
There once was a time, before 4KidsTV, when Fox’s Saturday morning cartoon block was called FoxBox. Before The WB’s cartoon block became TheCW4Kids, it was the KidsWB. It seems like cartoons are always evolving and changing, and apparently the people at 4Kids Entertainment and The CW felt it was time for a re-branding of their Saturday block, as well. To kick off this Fall’s 2010-2011 season, the pair announced that the Saturday morning block between 7am and 12pm will now be known as Toonzai – perhaps a notable nod to the recently acquired Dragon Ball Z Kai? Z Kai = zai? (more… )

Superman’s new look
Are the days of Superman’s blue, red, and yellow gone in favor of …black and gray? Looks like it, at least according to these screens from upcoming episodes of the CW’s Smallville. Superman always looks best to us in his more traditional Justice League Unlimited suit, but Clark’s Matrix-like look for Smallville this season at least shows that he’ll be trying out some costumes, and getting closer to the animated DC Comics hero we all know and love! Tom Welling, the Dark Superman look, and the rest of season nine debuts on September 25. What’s your favorite Super-style?
