4Kids teases Toonzai debut on The CW4Kids

With the summer heating up through August, cartoon blocks have begun ramping up their fall premieres; new toons, new fun, and (for some) a whole new look. From FoxBox to 4Kids.tv to The CW4Kids, there have been a number of variants in the 4Kids lineup, and this year will be no different. The new block, dubbed “Toonzai”, will debut in just a few weeks, but the promos have already started to spill out! We got word of the name-swap a few months back, and are just now getting official looks at both the logo and the rumored lineup, set to include Cubix, Sonic X, TMNT Back to the Sewer, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, and Dinosaur King, for starters. EA and Fox team for Will Wright's Spore the movie

Electronic Arts has no problem producing some of the greatest video games you encounter on a daily basis; but what about movies? Well, it looks like Twentieth Century Fox is up to the challenge, partnering with EA to produce a CG animated feature film based on Will Wright’s video game masterpiece, Spore. Greg Erb and Jason Oremland, the folks behind Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, have been selected to write the script, with Blue Sky Studios, of fame, ready to produce the epic. The video game has gone on to massive success and critical acclaim, but we’ve yet to see how that can translate into animated film appeal. I guess there’s only one way to find out! (more… )

Production companies are always on the search to create the next big thing, especially now in the advent of the CG movie. Pixar has it’s Toy Story franchise, DreamWorks can always turn to Shrek, Fox has the films, etc. So where does a company like Rainmaker Entertainment turn to? Ting & Juma. At least, that’s what they’re hoping. The story follows the exploits of Ting, a small energetic alien with an attitude, and Juma, an adventure seeking, creative caveman-ish forest dweller. The studio has already produced several short films of their adventures, and is now prepping the grandest of adventures, Ting & Juma: The Movie. So, how will things turn out? Will we be talking about the Ting & Juma franchise at their themepark some ten years in the future? Only we can be the judge of that! (more… )

Futurama returns as Comedy Central revives the Fox classic

Matt Groening is the well-known creator of the weller-known mega series, The Simpsons. For decades, Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa, and Maggie have ruled Fox television, but for a brief period, they shared the spotlight with “sister series” Futurama, which followed the adventures of a 20th-century New York City pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry (Billy West), who was cryogenically frozen for a thousand years, then awakened in the 31st-century to a world of robots and aliens. Futurama ran from 1999 to 2003, later finding a popular home on ’s Adult Swim. After which, four straight-to-DVD films were created that performed so well, Comedy Central purchased the rights to air them on TV. After receiving rave reviews, Comedy Central decided to sign up for an entirely new season, reviving the Futurama series. The NYSE begins delisting process for 4Kids

Much is afoot at lately. There have been rumors of a buyout. There have been struggles with Chaotic. There have been proposals to rebrand for Toonzai Saturday mornings. There is work on strong toons like Dinosaur King and Dragon Ball Z Kai. Some news sounds like forward momentum, some sounds scary. It’s not entirely clear what the future holds for the company whose legacy includes Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, Cabbage Patch Kids, Fox partnerships, CW partnerships, dubbing concerns, soft drink scandals, and more. The latest tidbit is the stock listing for 4Kids being removed from the New York Stock Exchange. Due to the company not meeting the minimum trade rate, NYSE is forced to make the move, giving 4Kids 10 days to review or appeal the decision. This doesn’t mean the company is closing, just that it will trade stocks in a traditional private fashion. Maybe there’s hidden good news in there, maybe not. What do you think? (more… )

Marvel’s X-Men franchise has seen 4 movies to date; X-Men in 2000, and sequels X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand (in 2003 and 2006, respectively) as well as last year’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Each has pulled in about $200 million, fueling the super hero genre for Disney’s newest acquisition. Now, producer Fox Studios has plans to bring the series back for a 5th film, dubbed X-Men: First Class. A release date has been set for June 3, 2011, and Matthew Vaughn will take the director role, running with a script idea by Bryan Singer. The continues, at least according to Fox. Blue Sky Studios recently announced that the Paleolithic franchise will bring about another sequel making 4 into : Continental Drift. As is popular with every movie these days, the film will be developed in 3D. The target date is currently set for July 13, 2012, which pits the film 10 days after Sony’s Spider-Man reboot, and 7 days before Warner Bros.’ third Batman, a follow up to The Dark Knight. Expected to return are the voices of Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego, Queen Latifah as Ellie, and Chris Wedge as Scrat. (more… )
