Alice in Wonderland in theaters today
Tim Burton’s dream-like take on the already-dream-like Alice in Wonderland hits theaters today, starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, and Michael Sheen, amongst others. The world of the new “Alice” has drifted a long way from the Looking Glass, and the original 1951 animated Disney classic. Combining live action with animation, the film brings Alice, now 19 years old, back to Wonderland 12 years later where she must confront the Jabberwock, the Red Queen, the Mad Hatter, and more. Disney will bring modern take to both 3D and IMAX screens as well as regular theaters globally, starting today, March 5th. Anyone planning on going opening night? (more… )
Iron Man 2 is getting closer
It’s only been a few weeks since we revealed the upcoming Iron Man 2 poster, but there’s already some great new info on the film. And, by “info”, I mean some sweet, sweet teasers and video trailers of what the production will look like when it hits theaters on May 7th. While it’s important to note this film isn’t anything like the Iron Man anime project, or the Nickelodeon Iron Man cartoon, it is important to note how very, very awesome the movie looks like it will be. What are you waiting for!? Click on! (more… )
Marvel’s Thor preparing for the big screen
Marvel Studios is just about to begin production on its next superhero movie adventure this January; Thor. The Paramount movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 20th, 2011, starring Chris Hemsworth as the Thunder God. The rest of the cast for the now-Disney-owned film will feature Tom Hiddleston as the evil Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Colm Feore and Stellan Skarsgard, and Samuel L. Turtles Forever, actually never
About two weeks ago, ToonBarn reported that every TMNT fan across the universe would witness the shell-ebration of a lifetime: Turtles Forever, a movie featuring every generation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles teaming up across the big screen. It was a fitting tribute to the Turtles on their 25th anniversary. But now, there is only shell-shock, as it appears the project has been cancelled! After seeking official comment, ToonBarn was told “Due to unforeseen circumstances this event will not be shown in theatres. Unfortunately, 4Kids Entertainment and Mirage Studios were unable to reach an agreement with Fathom Entertainment” Surely, this was the work of Krang, the robot and human Foot Clan, Beebop, Rocksteady, and every version of the Shredder! October 29th will come and go with no theatrical presentation, but perhaps TMNT Forever will move to TV or DVD. We’ll keep digging for you, so stay TOONed! In the meantime, check out the alternate poster to what could have been Turtles Forever after the break.
Lobo movie in the works
It’s been about 25 years since the intergalactic bounty hunter named Lobo was created in the DC Universe. He’s appeared as a side character in comics, moved up to his own title, dropped by the animated Superman series, and later the Justice League, and now, Warner Bros. is thinking about bringing the Main Man to the big screen. With all the success of comic-based films like Dark Knight and Iron Man, it was only time before the infamous anti-hero Lobo stepped to the plate. But, really, there’s not much more to report beyond the bare fact that its “in the works”. No actors, no script. It’s not even yet determined if it will be fully animated, or a split of live-action and CG animation. Either way, we’ll be looking forward to seeing the DC Comics star in his very own film. Oobermind gets some voices
Oobermind, is in need of some voices to play the main stars. Or, at least, it was until now. Just this week, the upcoming film from DreamWorks Animation landed some big names to feature in the movie, including Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill. The CG animated movie, which is set to reach theaters on November 5th 2010, stars the super villain Oobermind, who feels like there’s nothing left to do after he defeats the superhero Metro Man. To keep himself busy, he creates a new good guy to fight with, named Titan. Unfortunately, Titan thinks is much more fun to be a bad guy — probably because he was created by one! Ace reporter Roxanne Ritchi (played by Tina Fey) is there to bring us the news.
Max Steel, the movie
A few years ago, the Kids WB and Cartoon Network aired Max Steel, a CG animated series based on an extreme sports athlete that develops super powers. Afterward, he is recruited into a secret organization. Now, Mattel, Joe Roth, and Paramount Pictures are working to revive the character, giving him his own feature film. The hope is to relaunch the name with the movie first, then another animated series on TV and DVD.
The Jetsons to the big screen
The Jetsons, Hanna-Barbera’s famous futuristic animated family, could be working their way to movie theaters as early as next year! This time around, the characters are expected to be a mix of CG animation and live action, giving a more in-depth look at the characters than ever before. We’ll pass on the details as we find them!
