Disney takes Epic Mickey to Nintendo levels

Epic Mickey, the upcoming game for the Nintendo Wii, has some large expectations. Not only does the game promise to be, well, “epic”, but Disney executives have stated that they want to make sure the game is majorly successful; bringing it to “Nintendo levels” of success, according to Graham Hopper, VP and GM of Disney Interactive Studios. Since first hearing about the game, fans have been intrigued with the new style of Mickey Mouse, which Disney (working with help from Pixar) hopes to return the icon to his more mischievous routes, making for a more robust and heroic representative. Every Monday, Nintendo offers gaming fans new and retro titles to purchase on their Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. Today’s adventure in the U.S. is one of the greatest Sonic creations of all time; Sonic & Knuckles. For years, the game was subtitled by fans as “Sonic 4″, but everyone now knows that the true Sonic 4 will be available summer 2010. Sonic & Knuckles was originally on the Genesis, and used this cool “lock-on” cartridge allowing you to connect the older Sonic games, opening new content. Today’s downloadable game features some recreated emulation, and Sega brilliance, so that if you’ve also downloaded Sonic 1, Sonic 2, or Sonic 3 to the virtual console, you can connect them in virtual land. Gormiti: The Lords of Nature hits Nintendo Wii and Nintend DS

Konami is bringing Gormiti fans with a Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS a treat; their upcoming Gormiti: The Lords of Nature video game. The game recently made its first appearance at Toy Fair 2010, in Germany. The game is targeting a fall release this year, using characters and locations from Marathon and Giochi Prezios’s animated TV series, recreating the island of Gorm. There, the Lords of Earth, Sea, Air and Forest are charged with stopping the evil Magmion from wreaking havoc. Tj

Just when you thought LEGO was all out of ideas to merge with the Star Wars universe, they throw you a curve ball! er… laser blast! LucasArts has now announced that the LEGO Star Wars franchise is teaming up with Cartoon Network’s hit animated series, The Clone Wars, for the third installment of the video game series. LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, will be a new title based on the CG animated series, developed by Traveller’s Tales. The game will include all characters from both seasons of the show, as well as additional fan-favorites from the movies. Traveller’s Tales also mentioned a new battle mode and a level editor which allows players to create bases and battlefields. Look for the game to hit stores this fall, and available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, Wii, and PSP. (more… )

It’s been 16 years in the making, but the long awaited sequel is finally coming to our favorite home video game system; Sonic the Hedgehog 4, a direct sequel to 1994’s Sonic & Knuckles on Sega Genesis, is headed to Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. Originally codenamed “Project Needlemouse,” Sega officially announced that the title will also be episodic, with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 looking like the Sonic game we want it to be! The event takes place this summer, ready to be downloaded to WiiWare, PSN, and/or XBLA. Fans of anime and owners of the Nintendo Wii platform have a new reason to get together and hang out, as XSEED delivers one of the best flight games on the platform in Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces. Only a few short months after Sony Pictures brought the Sky Crawlers film to DVD and Blu-ray, Mamoru Oshii’s Sky Crawlers now take flight on the motion-sensing console. The anime-inspired, arcade style game includes 18 stages, upgradeable planes, an in-game achievement system, and even a two player piggy-back mode that puts your buddy in control of an additional aiming reticule on screen. If you’re a fan of The Secret Saturdays, get ready for a whole world of toys and other products! Turner CN Enterprises, the product arm of Cartoon Network’s empire, is set on introducing dozens of products for the fantasy adventure series via master toy licensee Mattel. This will include action figures, playsets, and role play items across Europe and the U.S. But that’s not all — Video game publisher D3P recently launched the official Secret Saturdays video game on Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, PS2 and PSP last November, and is rumored to be working on the sequel. Rainbow Productions will be cranking out some costumes based on the series, and other companies are jumping in to create cakes, outdoor toys, clothes and shoes, all for the superhero squad. (more… )

Netflix streaming available on Nintendo Wii this spring

After countless rumors and false starts passed through the intrawebs, it appears that Netflix and Nintendo have finally teamed up to bring streaming Netflix media to the Nintendo Wii this spring. This will give Wii owners, who are also Netflix subscribers, the ability to access Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” selections via an “instant streaming disc”, similar to the PS3 implementation. It also serves as a great mixture of media content, formally bringing video to the largest video game platform. Taking a quick look at Netflix’s Anime & Animation category, the selection is somewhat slim pickings. It’s all good stuff, and mostly anime, but pretty light for our needs. (more… )
