Winners of the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards
A few days back, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (a.k.a. NATAS) dished out trophies and recognition to the winners of the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The event recognizes outstanding achievement in all creative fields of daytime TV production during the 2009 calendar year, making specific note of cartoons, animated programs, and the networks that air them. PBS took home the most nods this year, with 15 wins. Nickelodeon followed with 11, and Disney, Ion, and The CW each walked away with one. Take a look at a partial list of winners: (more… )

Big Bad Book Studios’ Mixed Nutz makes an impression on PBS and Shaw
Every Sunday at 4pm, PBS, Shaw TV, and many other stations worldwide have themselves a bowl full of Mixed Nutz. Er, that is, they air the animated series Mixed Nutz for all of us lucky fans to enjoy. Recently, Shaw Multicultural Channel renewed the Big Bad Book Studios produced toon, with a new season featuring an adventurous and diverse character set; Sanjay, Babak, Jae, Adele and Damaris – a group of friends from around the world. The groundbreaking series celebrates cultures of the world with heart and humor, but best of all, it’s fun! The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, and a lot about DVDs
What you might already know is that the upcoming Dr. Seuss series The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That will launch on PBS Kids next month, on September 6th. What you might not know is that the toon will be available on DVD the very next day! The first DVD in the Portfolio Entertainment and Random House series is called Wings and Things, and will feature all of the animated power from The Cat in the Hat, who is voiced by famed actor and comedian Martin Short. PBS Kids brings Super Why to Apple’s iPad
Apple’s latest tech crazy device, the iPad, has been out for a few months now, selling like hot cakes and driving everyone into an app-happy frenzy! Joining up on the downloadable band wagon, PBS Kids hopes to launch a number of new applications on the platform, giving kids a reason to sign up and play. First up in the new batch is the Super Why! app in iTunes. Developed as part of the PBS Kids Raising Readers initiative, the $3 app is based on the Out of the Blue Enterprises series, with a number of interactive games using art from the CG animated toon. Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train Under the Sea hits PBS Kids
Dinosaur Train is one of the more popular animated series on PBS, as told through the eyes of Buddy, a young Tyrannosaurus Rex. Along with his adoptive family of Pteranodons, the group goes on adventures to meet all kinds of different creatures, learning facts and befriending the others along the way. On August 20th, the Jim Henson Company’s CG toon will reach an area never before seen, bringing the team deep into the oceans in the special Dinosaur Train Under the Sea! Phase 4 and Nelvana bring toon DVDs to North America via kaBOOM
Phase 4 Films and Nelvana Enterprises have teamed to share their cartoon joy with us. Deals between the pair will bring a number of animated DVD collections to regions across North America, including; Toopy and Binoo, Franklin, The Berenstain Bears, Max & Ruby, and 6Teen, amongst others. The series regularly air on Treehouse, YTV, Teletoon, Nickelodeon, PBS, Cartoon Network, CBS, qubo, Nick. Jr. and the Nicktoons Network. The partnership will release the DVDs under the kaBOOM! Out of the Blue’s Super Why! shines with new episodes
Over the past few months, there have been a number of brand new Super Why! episodes brought our way via producers Out of the Blue. The PBS Kids animated series has included several different themes through out each new episode, including cooking, sports, and even the tooth fairy. Cyberchase Summer Challenge on PBS Kids Go
It’s often a bit too easy to let your brain melt away during the summer months. There you are, kicking back with a refreshing lemonade while floating in the pool when, BAM, all of a sudden, you can’t remember the State Capital of Texas. Or how to tie your shoes. Or how to drink that lemonade you’ve got! In an effort to help keep your mind sharp, Cyberchase kicks off their eighth season with the Cyberchase Summer Challenge. The event hits PBS Kids Go! on June 25th, and features eight weeks of new and encore episodes of the toon. In addition to The Hacker and Digit (voiced by Christopher Lloyd and Gilbert Gottfried, respectively) two episodes will feature a new villain named Ledge on July 16th and 23rd.
