The first film brought in over $200 million dollars in the US when it came out in 2007, only to be surpassed by the Squeakquel with $220 million earlier this year. With a third film on the way in 2011, in the luxuriously priced 3D format, Fox absolutely has a winner on it’s hands. It’s here! The blockbuster smash hit and the : The Squeakquel is now available on Blu-ray and . The film, a (…ahem… Squeakquel) to the original CG and live action movie, is a hybrid like it’s predecessor, and is filled with comedic hijinx, songs, and the Chipettes. So what’s it like going from super famous rock star to … a regular high school student? Well, considering the film made around $200 million in the U.S. box office, it seems like a lot of people were interested to find out! We can only guess where things go from here, with additional followups to the franchise currently in development, taking the Chipmunk world into 3D. If Fox has anything to say about it, , Simon, and will be back. The have scored big at the box office twice now, and once on home The Squeakquel movie comes home later this month. But fans have clamored for more of their favorite CG / live-action hybrid adventures, and Fox, New Regency, and Bagdasarian Pictures are happy to oblige! It wasn’t big enough to take down the Avatar juggernaut, or even to best master detective Sherlock Homes, but and the : The Squeakquel, the second film in the franchise, had an amazingly strong start – thanks to the special guest appearance of the Chipettes; Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor. The CG hybrid film, mixing animated with live-action, brought in nearly $50 million over its first weekend. We’ve been looking forward to the followup for quite some time, so we’re glad to see a lot of you have, as well. Now, we just have to wait to get our hands on some of the toys!
