Disney takes Epic Mickey to Nintendo levels

Epic Mickey, the upcoming game for the Nintendo Wii, has some large expectations. Not only does the game promise to be, well, “epic”, but Disney executives have stated that they want to make sure the game is majorly successful; bringing it to “Nintendo levels” of success, according to Graham Hopper, VP and GM of Disney Interactive Studios. Since first hearing about the game, fans have been intrigued with the new style of Mickey Mouse, which Disney (working with help from Pixar) hopes to return the icon to his more mischievous routes, making for a more robust and heroic representative. It’s been almost a full year since we’ve seen a preview, but now we’re getting psyched up to watch the whole thing! Halo Legends is now on Blu-ray and DVD this week, ready to bring home and watch on repeat. The film is an unprecedented gathering of the finest talent in Japanese animation that have drawn together to explore the mystery and action of the Halo universe. Eight episodes and a stunning range of visual styles shed new light and epic perspective on Halo lore, developed by 5 different studios: Bones, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G, Studio4 C, and Toei Animation, financed by 343 Creative, and distributed by Warner Bros. Shinji Aramaki, creator and director of Appleseed and Appleseed Ex Machina, serves as the project’s creative director. (more… )

Special Sonic Classic Collection to the Nintendo DS

If you’re going to ask my personal opinion, I think that the best Sonic games are the classic 2D games – that means two things; (1) I’m incredibly psyched about the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and (2) I am absolutely in love with the upcoming special Sonic Classic Collection for the Nintendo DS. The collection includes Sega’s first three Sonic games and Sonic & Knuckles, as well as a tin, art cards, and a Sonic figurine. Unfortunately (for me) as of right now, the collection will only be available in Spain and Australia, but Sega has not ruled out a wider distribution. (more… )

Just when you thought LEGO was all out of ideas to merge with the Star Wars universe, they throw you a curve ball! er… laser blast! LucasArts has now announced that the LEGO Star Wars franchise is teaming up with Cartoon Network’s hit animated series, The Clone Wars, for the third installment of the video game series. LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, will be a new title based on the CG animated series, developed by Traveller’s Tales. The game will include all characters from both seasons of the show, as well as additional fan-favorites from the movies. Traveller’s Tales also mentioned a new battle mode and a level editor which allows players to create bases and battlefields. Look for the game to hit stores this fall, and available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, Wii, and PSP. (more… )

It’s been 16 years in the making, but the long awaited sequel is finally coming to our favorite home video game system; Sonic the Hedgehog 4, a direct sequel to 1994’s Sonic & Knuckles on Sega Genesis, is headed to Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. Originally codenamed “Project Needlemouse,” Sega officially announced that the title will also be episodic, with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 looking like the Sonic game we want it to be! The event takes place this summer, ready to be downloaded to WiiWare, PSN, and/or XBLA. If you’re a fan of The Secret Saturdays, get ready for a whole world of toys and other products! Turner CN Enterprises, the product arm of Cartoon Network’s empire, is set on introducing dozens of products for the fantasy adventure series via master toy licensee Mattel. This will include action figures, playsets, and role play items across Europe and the U.S. But that’s not all — Video game publisher D3P recently launched the official Secret Saturdays video game on Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, PS2 and PSP last November, and is rumored to be working on the sequel. Rainbow Productions will be cranking out some costumes based on the series, and other companies are jumping in to create cakes, outdoor toys, clothes and shoes, all for the superhero squad. (more… )
