UP, Prep and Landing big winners at this years Annie Awards

February 6th saw the 37th Annual Annie Awards ceremony in LA, a celebration of animated talent. We learned of the nominations a few weeks ago, and now the results are in. The big winners of the night: Up was named Best Animated Feature. The holiday special Prep and Landing took the award for Best Animated Television Production. The award for Best Home Entertainment Production went to Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder, and Robot Chicken: Star Wars 2.5 was picked as Best Animated Short Subject. The Nickelodeon and DreamWorks series, Penguins of Madagascar, was named Best Animated Television Production for Children. Check out the full list of winners (more… )

Princess and the Frog, UP, Coraline, Prep and Landing honored by the Annie Awards

On this Saturday, February 6th, UCLA’s Royce Hall will be the home of the 37th Annual Annie Awards ceremony in LA. During this event, animation is put front and center on everyone’s attention, dubbed “animation’s highest honor”. Disney Animation Studio leads the way with 17 nominations, including eight for the recent box office hit The Princess and the Frog, and nine for the holiday special Prep and Landing. Nickelodeon leads the TV arena with 12 nods, and DreamWorks Animation received 11 nominations, including the holiday special Merry Madagascar. Laika received 10 nominations for its feature film Coraline, and Pixar Animation Studios received 9 for its movie Up. Such a great year for animation!! Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths

Early next year, DC Comics plans to bring us Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Originally, the direct-to-video animated film was an attempt to bridge the gap between the end of Justice League, and the start of Justice League Unlimited, both originally run on Cartoon Network. However, the project has since been converted to its own movie, and will serve as the seventh film in the DC Universe Original Animated Movies line released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation. The story line features an alternate universe, where there is a good Lex Luthor as a hero and a bad Superman in the Crime Syndicate. DC’s Wonder Woman soars to DVDs

Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation are set to release the all-new animated movie Wonder Woman on DVD.  The story stars Princess Diana; a beautiful daughter with extraordinary strength, raised on the mystical island of Themyscira.  With super human powers granted by the gods of Olympus, Diana is legendary amongst the Amazon warriors.  But when Ares, the God of War, seeks revenge on the Amazons, it’s up to Princess Diana to save the world by using her gifts to become the ultimate Wonder Woman.

DC Comics most famous superheroine, Wonder Woman, will soon be starring in her own straight-to-DVD animated adventure!  The DVD will hit stores February of 2009, and has already started to work up a lot of buzz on this here intrawebs.

This is the fourth in the line of DC Universe Original Animated Movies released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation. The previous releases were Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, and Batman: Gotham Knight.
