The Green Lantern goes 3D

The Green Lantern goes 3D

The world of 3D has had a lot of success lately, what with Avatar and Alice and Wonderland raking in the big bucks. The world of super hero films has also done nicely, what with Iron Man and Dark Knight raking in the big bucks. Using that logic, Warner Bros. has a great idea on their mind: combine the two! The upcoming Green Lantern film, will do just that. The Green Lantern, due to hit screens on June 17th, 2011, will bring the DC Comics hero into living 3D. Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, DC Entertainment plans to take this imagination-based hero into the stars, but also into your eyes, through stereoscopic 3D use. Leaves us wondering; will the glasses be red, blue, and green…? (more… )

Guardians of Ga'Hoole now Legend of the Guardians, according to USAtoday.com

Warner Bros., likely in an effort to avoid becoming a bunch of “Ga’Hooligans”, has decided to change the name of the upcoming animated feature from from Guardians of Ga’Hoole to Legend of the Guardian. The film still aims to hit theaters on September 24th, later this year, and will be headed up by Zack Snyder, featuring a voice over cast including Sam Neil, Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Helen Mirren, Abbie Cornish, and Hugo Weaving among many others. Who will star as Captain America

Who will star as Captain America

Having Christian Bale as Batman and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine now seem like such wonderful, obvious choices. However, for a time, no one knew who would be the right fit for either of those two characters. Right now, Marvel is having a similar issue with their American Patriot Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. The upcoming superhero film, to be directed by Joe Johnston, will tell the story of a young man who becomes the symbol of Liberty during World War II, and eventually a leader of the Avengers. Right now, that could be John Krasinski (Jim from the Office), Michael Cassidy (from Smallville), Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Bethel, Mike Vogel, and several others. With Thor and Spider-Man going through their own growing pains with casting, Marvel has it’s work cut out. Who would be your choice? (more… )

DC Comics keeps DC Entertainment entertaining

DC Entertainment, the booming, newly named segment of Warner Bros. that focuses on DC Comics characters leaving the comic book world for movies, series, and beyond, has established its management team. The group has selected from the finest of the comic world: Jim Lee, Dan DiDio, and Geoff Johns. You may recognize the names from their comic book works, credits in comic book movies and Smallville, or as those interviewed in the behind-the-scenes shots included with WB Premiere animated movies and Cartoon Network’s Justice League franchise. Jim Lee also created WildCats and Gen 13, which each had short-lived toons on CBS a few years back. Together, these three, and several other key new members, will craft how DC Entertainment moves forward – further cementing the world of comic books outside the world of comic books. (more… )

Speedy Gonzales speeds to the big screen

Speedy Gonzales speeds to the big screen

The classic Looney Tunes character, Speedy Gonzales, is headed to the big screen in his own feature film. The mouse speedster, notably smaller than Warner Bros.’ other fast-moving icon, RoadRunner, will dazzle his way into theaters, with comedian George Lopez providing the voice. New Line Cinema plans the movie as a mix of live-action and CG animation, creating a hybrid in style similar to the Chipmunks movies. Speedy debuted in the 1950s as a regular nemesis of Sylvester the Cat, and even won an Academy Award in 1955 for best short subject with a toon simply named “Speedy Gonzales”. He’s last been seen in the movies “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” “Space Jam”, and “Looney Tunes: Back in Action.” (more… )

Justice League Crisis on Two Earths out today

Justice League Crisis on Two Earths out today

DC Comics and Warner Premiere; two similar-yet-different companies within the same realm. If only the two of them were filled with capes, masks, and super powers, it’d be very similar to their collaborative project, Justice League Crisis on Two Earths. This original, animated DVD and Blu-ray film is out today, February 23rd. It features the Justice League, similar to the incarnation from the Cartoon Network series, battling an evil Justice League from an alternative universe. True to the “opposite” stance, this evil League regularly does battle with a good Lex Luthor. How’s that for crazy! This is the seventh animated special in the line of the DC Universe Original Animated Movies line released by Warner Premiere and Warner Bros. Animation. Check out the trailer, then go buy the DVD or Blu-ray! (more… )

Pucca gets the hook up from Warner Bros

Pucca gets the hook up from Warner Bros

She started off as just a web-based flash animated girl, but Pucca has since grown into a major success — so much so, that Warner Bros. Consumer Products has teamed with producer VOOZ Co. to launch a clothing line based on the series characters. The toon itself is a simple-styled, slick-moving animation, similar to PowerPuff Girls or Dexter’s Lab, but perhaps even a step further simplified. The result, however, is a collection of lovable characters and incredibly smooth animation. The show stars Pucca, a confident, but very loving (and crush-having) young Korean girl. The clothing line will star many different designers, including Preen, Mark Fast, Raquel Allegra, Unconditional, Not Rational, Genetic Denim, I.R.O, Erickson Beamon, and Curve boutiques. The toon still not ringing a bell? Check out an episode right here! (more… )
